Intermediate Visual Arts
Prerequisite: None
Open to all grades 9-12
This is a fundamentals course designed to reinforce and build on prior knowledge and skills. This course offers reinforcement of elements and principles of art, media, color theory, art concepts, techniques, and history of art. It provides experiences in design, drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking, and art appreciation.
This course is a prerequisite for all Honors and AP Studio courses.
Photographic Design- Honors Accomplished
Prerequisite: None
Open to all grades 9-12
Material necessary: CAMERA REQUIRED
Photographic Design is an introductory course in photography designed to expand the student’s skill as a photographer with emphasis on composition and design. This class broadens understanding of need and use of photography. We will study the elements and principles of design as they relate to photography. Students will have a photography assignment due every one to two weeks and will do design related projects in class to supplement their skills in composition.
Honors Accomplished Visual Art
Prerequisite: Intermediate Visual Art or equivalent
Open to grades: 10-12
This course curriculum includes 2D and 3D Design work ranging from a 2-dimensional surface to a 3-dimensional sculpture. Honors Visual Art Accomplished is designed for motivated art students with previous art experience. This course will provide portfolio development to prepare and vertically align with Honors Advanced VA, Honors Advanced 3D Specialization, Advanced Placement 2D and 3D Design courses.
Honors Advanced 3D Specialization (Honors Sculpture)
Prerequisite: Intermediate Visual Art
Open to grades: 10-12
This course will introduce students to fundamental sculptural processes. Students will explore various sculptural methods and will build upon concepts and techniques to create 3-dimensional works. Students will regularly reflect on aesthetics and art issues as individuals in written artist statements and group critiques. The works created in this course will provide portfolio development to prepare for the AP 3D course.
Honors Advanced Visual Art
Prerequisite: Intermediate Visual Art, Honors Accomplished Visual Art
Open to grades: 11, 12
This course curriculum focuses on the fine arts of drawing, painting, advanced techniques and process. The curriculum is designed for highly motivated art students with previous art experience and those who need portfolio building and preparation for Advanced Placement Drawing and 2D. The course will involve a more advanced study of skills, techniques, art processes, media, history, written expression, and constructive criticism. This course will provide portfolio development to prepare and vertically align with the Advanced Placement Drawing and 2D course.

Honors Accomplished, Photographic Design, Honors 3D Specialization or
Honors Advanced Visual Art
This course is designed for highly motivated students who are seriously interested in the study of art. Students are required to take the AP Art exam. The exam portfolio will be scored for college credit and consists of two sections: Sustained Investigation, and Selected Works.
Using many artistic techniques, students are expected to explore a wide range of media. Inventive and observational works are encouraged, while innovation and creativity are a necessity along with documentation and explanation of process. An additional Studio Lab course is recommended (except for 2D Photography) to be taken with AP Studio Art Drawing, 2D and 3D.
AP Art History
Prerequisite: None
Open to grades: 10-12
AP Art History is an introductory college-level art history course. Students cultivate their understanding of art history through analyzing works of art and placing them in historical context as they explore concepts like culture and cultural interactions, theories and interpretations of art, the impact of materials, processes, and techniques on art and art making, and understanding purpose and audience in art historical analysis. Students are required to take the exam.
